Spring Break Fun

This week was our Spring Break here in Middle TN and with that, both kids were home and ready to have fun. And fun we did have even though hubby and I still had to work nor did we go on an away trip. We started the weekend off by getting the yard ready by planting new annuals and refilling the mulch beds.
As a reward for my helpers: the first Popsicle of the season on the porch steps:
Soaking up the sun... even the guinea pigs love being outdoors:
Amelia found a new friend, Marco the stick dog, while my boy can't sit still and must play a sport any time of the day. It does not matter if it is basketball, football, tennis or just riding his bike down the street.
Checking the scores for MarchMadness:
A play date in the park with friends, enjoying the warmer weather:
On Monday, I took the kids with me to work. They always love coming, especially since my co-worker brought her daughter too.
Since it was a rainy day, we decided to go to the Adventure Science Center after lunch. It was really crowded and so we spent most of our time in the Tinker Garage, designing and crafting boat and a robot.
Testing zone success:
We also watched an experiment about MATTER:
A new stuffie from the museum:
Since Spring has finally arrived, Elliot was able to try out his birthday gift for the first time. He loved driving this remote control car and let me tell you, it is not as easy as it looks. We all loved playing with it though.
Derrick took the kids fishing on Wednesday afternoon (no fish and no pictures though) while I got my hair done :
And then they came home to play some B-ball:
On Thursday, the children and I went to the zoo. It was a beautiful, warm Spring day and so the zoo was super crowded.
Still, we enjoyed feeding the Lorikeet and interacting with the animals.
Everyone was out and about soaking up some sun:
Just recently, the zoo opened a new Vet Health Center, where visitors are allowed to watch the vets at work thru a big glass window. While we were there, an ultrasound and health check was performed on a Red Lemur. We love watching animal shows on TV and this was just like that. Zoo staff was readily available to talk about what is being done. So cool!
Stopping by at the flamingos:
Family favorite- the Lorikeet:
A carousel ride:
 One great day to remember:
I took off on Friday as well but most of the day was spent deep cleaning the house. By the afternoon (and still in pjs) everyone needed some time outdoors:
That night, Derrick and I had concert tickets. More about that one in the next blog post though. Before the rainstorm on Saturday, we explored a new park. There was a trail around a small lake that is home to lots and lots of turtles, ducks and geese.
While I went for a run, the boys played tennis and Amelia fell in love with the ducklings (don't worry, we didn't feed nor touched them).
This week was filled with fun activities and something we all desperately needed. Today, we finished off Spring break with football training and a family night out at Chili's.
And then all my babies jumped in to my bed for a last cuddle and some TV.
Looking already forward to next year's Spring break!!!

March Madness

It is the middle of March and finally, we have sunshine. Yes, there is still rain every other day or so but the sun is out in between and everything is starting to bloom.
So we have started working on the yard again and making sure to look for worms.
And since Elliot started flag football season in the beginning of the month, we have been outside every chance we get. While his first game last Sunday was cancelled due to the muddy fields that did not kept the team from practicing for two hours. There are 4 coaches and 6-9 children. And he loves every minute of it, mud and all.
Practice and a touchdown before he gets tackled. So much for flag football where there is supposed to be no tackling of teammates.

No nap and two hours of running and being too dirty to sit in the car equals one tired and whiny boy. Luckily, after some ice cream and a hot bath, he was back up running again.
Practice on Tuesday evening - I go for a run and then sit on the sidelines to watch the rest of the practice. It gets quite chilly by 7pm but the kids don't mind.
Too cute not to share:
This little boy had his picture day on Wednesday and wanted to wear his "prey" dress shirt.
Amelia got a haircut and Elliot had Sport Days at preschool:
Happy preschoolers:
My friend from Austria, Bettina, and I decided to put our baking skills to good use and make some Kaesekuchen and Mohnrolle. It both was delicious and we coupled that with some traditional Chinese and Japanese Tea.
While I helped out at school on Thursday, the second graders made Oobleck.
And then we took Amelia's best friend home for a play date. They look like sisters.  Two silly girls!
Today at Amelia's dance school, they took the recital pictures and I can't get over how cute those girls look in their ballet and tap outfit. The recital will be in May but here is a sneak peak of their outfits:
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
