Dr. Seuss Week

This week, the famous children book author Dr. Seuss, aka Theodor Seuss Geisel, would have been 112 years old and to celebrate his birthday, it was Dr. Seuss week at many schools all across the country. "While he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the pages of his books. He forever changed the way children's books were written and continues to inspire generations." (www.seussville.com)

Since most of books involve silly characters or funny rhymes, the children in Amelia's preschool were asked to dress up every day to a different theme. If you can't tell from the following pictures but Amelia is in to posing, preferably silly poses.
On Monday, they wore stripes:
On Tuesday, it was funny sock day:

On Wednesday, it was silly hat day. Since we don't own a silly hat, we made one out of paper and Amelia decorated it:
On Thursday, is was tacky clothes day. I don't think the children knew what tacky means, so we dressed up silly:
And on Friday, the children were asked to bring a Dr. Seuss item to school. So Amelia chose to color a picture of Thing 1 & Thing 2 and to bring in a Dr. Seuss book.
Amelia's class also continued with the theme of Dr. Seuss during their school hours: they read lots of his books,

they made an "at" word family hat,
they created leopards from paper plates,
and they played with Oobleck (half cornstarch and half water), which is a "non-Newtonian fluid that has properties of both liquids and solids. You can slowly dip your hand into it like a liquid, but if you squeeze or punch it, it will feel solid." (www.livescience.com)
Amelia had a fun week learning about Dr. Seuss and celebrating this beloved author and illustrator.
Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
One of my favorite Dr. Seuss' quotes.
