Summer Family Vacation - Part II (Chattanooga)

Despite a fun day at the aquarium, our Monday was not over yet. After resting at the hotel for a while (my little boy still needs his daily 2 -hour nap), we put on our patriotic attire and headed out to Coolidge Park. The city of Chattanooga hosted their annual "Pops on the River", which featured a free concert on the lawn and fireworks for Independence Day.
Like thousands of other people, we brought some lawn chairs, a blanket and a picnic and enjoyed sitting by the Tennessee River eating our dinner. When we arrived, it drizzled a bit but nothing much that could discourage us from enjoying a beautiful evening out.
The Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Orchestra performed on the stage at the park that night and we enjoyed listening to some classical tunes while playing Frisbee on the field or watching the boats on the river.
Monday, July 3rd is also a special day for Derrick and I: It is our wedding anniversary. 7 years ago, we said YES to each other and I'm blessed to be married to the man of my dreams. Still to this day, he sweeps me off my feet and completes my life without frill or fanfares, just by being him. A lot has happened during these past 7 years: many moves, we added two beautiful children to our family, new jobs, some tears but mostly happy days. While our wedding anniversary was far from what people would call a romantic evening out, it was the best and only way for us to spent is: together as a family having fun and spending quality time together.
My big boy:
When it finally got dark, the kids were excited to see the firework show over the river.

Since we all went to bed late, we made sure to sleep in the next morning before grabbing a late breakfast at the hotel.  Despite it being overcast, we decided to drive up Lookout Mountain to take in the breathtaking views over Chattanooga and take the Incline Railway up the mountain. Since the wait for this attraction was too long with two small children in tow, we just drove up the mountain in our car to enjoy the view from atop.
Watching the Incline Railway. I'm actually happy, we didn't do this, as you are pulled up sitting backwards and it is a steep incline.
Atop the mountain are several attractions such as interesting civil war sights and parks.
Not far from there is also Rock City and Ruby Falls, which we plan on visiting the next time we come to Chattanooga. Due to the weather, we headed back to the hotel for some reading and rest time. This pictures makes my mommy heart so happy. She started inhaling chapter books and now we sit together on a couch, each of us reading their own books:
For the evening of 4th of July, we had planned to attend a Minor League Baseball Game and watch the firework show at the ball park; however, the weather was not cooperating. Because it was steaming hot in the afternoon, we took the kids to a splash pad in downtown to cool off before heading for dinner. While at dinner, the skies opened up and it was pouring down. Thus, we decided to rather watch the firework show on TV and skip the ball game.
This caps off our short visit to Chattanooga. We definitely will be back as this town has much more to offer but preferably when it cooled down a bit. Next up, our time visiting family and hanging out at the beach in Charleston, SC.
