Our Romantic Getaway - Part I

This past week, my husband and I spent 3 nights away in Asheville, NC. This was a welcomed and much needed retreat for just the two of us (the last time we two went on a vacation was on our honeymoon in 2010) and we loved every minute of it. Since my mom was here, she took great care of our children and the house. We also chose the perfect time to go to Asheville: leaf season. The city is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains (2,134 Ft altitude) and has a very bohemian/ hippie feel to it. Honestly, I was not too fond of the city itself, but the landscape surrounding it was beautiful. And that's where we spent most of our time.
When we arrived on Tuesday afternoon, we went right to downtown to eat at Tupelo Honey Cafe, which came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The food in Asheville was great, especially since I could take my time and enjoy every bite of it instead of rushing to avoid a toddler accident.
After that, we took a scenic drive to Pisgah National Forest and actually ended up driving right over a mountain on a very small, curvy road. Luckily, we were the only ones up there and made it back down safely.
On the way down, we stopped at Looking Glass Falls, which is one of the most photographed waterfalls in the U.S. as it is easily accessible and the water tumbles down with such a force from the 60-foot tall cascade that it generates a cooling mist at river level.

The waterfall was lovely and the whole time while we were in Asheville, I kept talking about all the different colors of leaves and how pretty it looks. As you can tell, the weather was beautiful too: warm and sunny (high 60sF) and cooler at night. We stayed at a Country Inn Hotel and the suite included a Jacuzzi tub, which came in very handy on those cold nights.
Next up, our visit to Biltmore Estate.
