Our Romantic Getaway - Part III

On our last day in Asheville, we decided to take a scenic drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. But first we had to have some delicious breakfast at a local bakery. The best eclair I ever had:
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a 469-miles long National Parkway and All-American Road, noted for its scenic beauty.
Along the Parkway are many overlooks, where one can park and take in the scenery.
First, we drove up to Craggy Dome at 5,640 Ft (1,719 m) elevation, where we hiked for a good half mile thru bushes and over uneven surfaces up to the top of the observation platform.
The hike was worth it though as the view, and especially the fall foliage was magnificent.
Then we turned around and drove West on the Parkway, back to Pisgah National Forest to look at more fall foliage and some amazing waterfalls.  We stopped to look at Looking Glass Rock and then decided to take another hike thru the forest to see Skinny Dip Falls.
And no, there is no skinny dipping allowed but it is a popular swimming hole and soaking spot during summer time.

Before heading back to the hotel, we stopped at another waterfall called Twin Falls. But since it was getting late and cooler, we decided not to hike closer to this waterfall, but rather take a picture from the overlook.
And with that we concluded our scenic drive as well as our stay in Asheville. We both enjoyed this much needed couple time a lot and had fun as well as relaxed. On top of that, we chose the best time of the year to visit as the scenery was beautiful all around. Hopefully, it won't take another 5 years till we get to take a couple's vacation again.
