IGA

On Sunday, the kids and I took the subway to meet my father and Petra at the IGA (International Garden Exhibit). Every year, this international horticultural exhibit is hosted in a different city and this year, it was in Berlin.  It lasts from April thru October and features lots of colorful flowers, contemporary garden designs and landscape architecture on 257 acres (104 hectares). Based on the season, the landscapers constantly replant and redesign the exhibit halls, which attracted more than 1.6 million visitors. First up, we took a ride on the rope way system, which was built especially for the IGA.
We arrived on top of a hill, where an observation deck was located at. Unfortunately, it was a cool and slightly rainy day; thus, our views over the city were limited.
Since there was quite a bit to walk, we rented a wagon for the kids. Too bad, the adults couldn't sit in it too.
There was a big adventure playground, with water pumps and all, and even though it was wet and cool, we all had to try it out.
To warm up a bit, we visited the flower exhibition halls next. The fall plants were beautiful and the decor too.
And my favorite picture of my little flower girl:
The pond and waterfall area:
The park also had a bobsleigh run, which I have fond memories of doing on vacation as a child. Thus, I wanted Amelia (Elliot was too young) to have that same experience. And she loved it:

Even though there was still much more to explore at the exhibition, after a few hours we were wet and cold and headed back home. Despite the weather, I'm glad that we have made it there as it was definitely worth the visit. And since the organizers will make this a public park and keep the rope way, we might even go back on one of our future visits to my hometown.
